Kathmandu: Citizens Bank celebrated World Environment Day 2026 by launching a comprehensive tree plantation program under its innovative “One Account, One Tree” campaign. As part of its ongoing commitment to corporate social responsibility, the bank organized a major event at the Chowkidanda Tourism Park in Budhanilkantha on Saturday. This initiative reflects the bank’s dedication to ecological preservation and its proactive role in fostering a greener future for the country.
The plantation drive was a massive nationwide effort, reaching across all seven provinces of Nepal. While approximately 250 saplings of various species were planted at the park in Budhanilkantha, the bank successfully planted a total of 1,500 trees across the country. The regional distribution included 200 trees in Koshi Province, 250 in Madhesh, and 200 each in Gandaki, Lumbini, Karnali, and Sudurpashchim Provinces, ensuring a significant and balanced environmental impact throughout the nation.
The ceremony was attended by high-ranking officials, including the bank’s Chief Executive Officer Ganesh Raj Pokharel and Surendra Lama, the Chairman of Budhanilkantha Ward No. 1, alongside senior management and bank staff. This green initiative is a continuation of the bank’s extensive social engagement portfolio, which has previously included organizing health camps in remote areas and providing essential infrastructure and educational support to community schools across Nepal.
Addressing the participants during the event, CEO Ganesh Raj Pokharel highlighted the long-term vision behind the project. He emphasized that every tree planted today serves as a vital investment for the well-being of future generations, promising them cleaner air, a safer environment, and a healthier life. By integrating environmental stewardship into its corporate mission, Citizens Bank aims to lead by example and encourage the wider community to take meaningful steps toward climate action.
