Gharana Foods records Rs 1.2 billion turnover in first 9 months of fiscal year

Kathmandu: Gharana Foods, a prominent player in the Nepali flour market known for its “Gharana” brand, has reported a turnover of approximately Rs 1.2 billion during the first nine months of the current fiscal year.

This performance follows a steady revenue stream over the past few years, with the company recording NPR 1.58 billion in the previous fiscal year and a peak of NPR 1.82 billion in 2023. Managed by the Goenka family, specifically under the ownership of Vinay Kumar Goenka and Vikas Goenka, the company has remained a consistent fixture in the domestic food industry since its establishment in 2008.

The company specializes in wheat processing, producing a wide range of staples including fine flour (Maida), whole wheat flour (Atta), semolina (Suji), gram flour, and bran. These products are distributed in various packaging sizes, ranging from small 1 kg retail packs to 50 kg bulk bags for commercial use.

Despite its established market presence, Gharana Foods is currently operating well below its maximum potential. Although the facility boasts an annual processing capacity of 75,220 metric tons, it utilized only about 40 per cent of this capacity during the first nine months of this year, which is a marginal increase from the 39 per cent utilization seen in the last fiscal year.

Financially, the company is navigating a tighter environment as its operating margin compressed to 2.9 per cent in the recent nine-month period, down from 5.4 per cent in 2024.

To manage its operational costs and maintain liquidity, Gharana Foods recently sought credit ratings for loans totalling Rs 640 million. This financial structuring includes Rs 20 million for long-term obligations and Rs 620 million for short-term financing, ensuring the company can continue its wheat processing and distribution operations across the country.
