Film Critics Society distributes awards


Kathmandu: The Film Critics Society of Nepal (FICSON) on Saturday distributed the Critics Film Award for 2081 and 2082 BS amidst a ceremony held at the Nepal Tourism Board’s meeting hall.

Director Meen Bahadur Bham (Shambala), actor Daya Hang Rai ( Gaun Aayeko Bato), actress Thinle Lhamo (Shambala), scriptwriters and writers Sarisha Khatri and Siddhartha Pudasaini (Sano Sansar), cinematographer Alok Shukla (Aankha), J Him Lee and Alex Gurvots ( Rajagunj), towards editing, and background music composer Koshor Acharya ( Gaun Aayeko Bato) were conferred the ‘ Critics Film Award 2081 BS’.

Likewise, child actor Supla Sapkota was given the Special Mention Award for the movie Bokshi Ko Ghar for the year 2081 BS, and Roshan Diwana the Special Mention Award for art direction in the movie Purna Bahadurko Saranagi.

Similarly, the awards for the year 2082 BS were presented to the movie Unko Sweater (The Woollen Sweater), director Naveen Chauhan (Unko Sweater), actor Hari Bansha Acharya (Bhuthan), actress Aana Sharma (Ramitako Pirati), scriptwriters Naveen Chaudhan and Suraj Katuwal (Unko Sweater), cinematographer Sushan Prajapati ( Bhuthan), editor Anjay Khadka (Bhuthan), and background music composer Kovid Bajra ( Unko Sweater).

The Society has been presenting the awards since 2071 BS, aiming to encourage the quality development of the Nepali film industry.

According to the Society chair, Samipya Raj Timalsena, fostering a critique culture in film will help pave the way for the further growth and development of the film industry.

Noted artist Madan Krishna Shreshtha, who attended the ceremony as the chief guest, observed that only drawing audiences to film halls is not the sole benchmark of quality films.

He argued, however, that films selected for the awards are genuinely outstanding works. He further added that awards are presented based on the artistic aspects of the films rather than their commercial success.
