Kathmandu: Fonepay has officially introduced “Checkout by Fonepay,” a specialized online payment solution designed to make e-commerce transactions faster, smoother, and more convenient for customers shopping via mobile apps and websites.
As the digital marketplace expands in Nepal, consumer expectations have shifted toward a more seamless checkout experience.
The traditional online payment journey often involves switching between multiple apps, repeatedly entering login credentials, waiting for OTP authentications, and navigating back to the merchant’s platform to confirm the purchase.
These fragmented steps frequently lead to transaction delays, errors, and incomplete purchases, creating significant friction for both users and businesses.
Market data suggests that approximately 70 percent of online shopping carts globally are abandoned before the final payment is made, often due to overly complex or lengthy checkout procedures. By simplifying the payment flow, Checkout by Fonepay directly addresses one of the most significant challenges in the e-commerce industry.
This new solution allows customers to complete their payments directly within the merchant’s checkout environment, effectively removing unnecessary layers and helping merchants improve their conversion rates while significantly boosting customer satisfaction.
At present, this innovative service is available through the mobile banking applications of eleven prominent financial institutions. These include Agriculture Development Bank, Citizens Bank International, Garima Bikas Bank, Kumari Bank, Laxmi Sunrise Bank, Manjushree Finance, Muktinath Bikas Bank, Nabil Bank, Prabhu Bank, Rastriya Banijya Bank (RBB), and Sanima Bank. Fonepay has indicated that additional banks, financial institutions, and diverse merchant platforms will be integrated into the system in the coming months to expand the reach of this streamlined payment option.
During the launch, Fonepay CEO Diwas Kumar emphasized that as the e-commerce sector grows, the payment process must become as effortless as the shopping experience itself. He noted that Checkout by Fonepay was specifically engineered to eliminate the common hassles associated with online transactions, providing a superior experience for customers and merchants alike. He also expressed enthusiasm for the initial partnership with Fasto, a company recognized for its speedy delivery services, noting that their shared vision for efficiency makes them an ideal first merchant for this solution.
As the first merchant to integrate this technology, Fasto will now offer its customers a significantly accelerated ordering process by allowing them to pay directly through the embedded Fonepay interface. To celebrate this milestone, Fonepay and Fasto have launched a special consumer campaign titled “What the Fast! Fatafat Order, Fatafat Checkout.”
Running from July 7 to July 13, 2026, the campaign offers a 20 percent cashback incentive, up to a maximum of Rs 1,000, for customers who order via Fasto and pay using the new checkout feature, encouraging users to experience the speed of the updated system firsthand.
The introduction of Checkout by Fonepay marks another significant achievement in Fonepay’s ongoing mission to strengthen Nepal’s digital payment ecosystem through secure and customer-centric innovations. By providing a faster and more straightforward way to conduct online business, the company is paving the way for a more digital-forward economy. As the service continues to scale across more banks and digital platforms, it is expected to redefine the standard for online shopping and financial transactions across the country.
