Kathmandu: Nepal’s national cricket team has landed a historic Rs 70 million (US$ 525,000) jersey sponsorship deal — the largest single sponsorship in the country’s sports history.
The agreement, signed between the Cricket Association of Nepal (CAN) and Nasa Securities, marks the first time in Nepali cricket that a sponsorship of this scale has been secured. Previously, the highest sponsorship in cricket was Rs 50 million from Siddhartha Bank for the Nepal Premier League — spread over five years.
Nasa Securities, one of Nepal’s largest stock brokerage firms by trading volume, will pay CAN the sum of Rs 23.6 million annually for three years, totaling Rs 70.8 million.
This surpasses the previous all-time highest sports sponsorship in Nepal, which was Rs 10 million from Qatar Airways for the Martyr’s Memorial ‘A’ Division Football League organized by the All Nepal Football Association (ANFA).
CAN President Chatur Bahadur Chand called the deal “a proud moment not only for CAN but for all cricket lovers in the country,” describing it as “a new chapter for Nepali cricket.” Secretary Paras Khadka said it was time to break the tradition of keeping sponsorship amounts undisclosed in Nepali sports, proudly revealing the record-breaking figure.
Nepal national team captain Rohit Paudel welcomed the announcement, saying the sponsorship would boost player morale and help athletes focus entirely on their game without financial distractions.
For Nasa Securities, the deal is about more than cricket. Managing Director Madan Paudel said partnering with Nepali cricket was “a matter of pride” and an opportunity to connect with the entire sporting community. “Our plan to be linked with Nepali cricket has now been fulfilled, and this partnership extends to the wider sports world,” he said.
With this deal, Nepali cricket takes a major step toward greater financial stability and professionalism, signaling growing commercial interest in the sport.
