Kathmandu: Chief Justice of India, Bhushan Ramkrishna Gavai, arrived in Kathmandu on Thursday for an official visit at the invitation of Nepal’s Chief Justice, Prakash Man Singh Raut.
At Tribhuvan International Airport, Justice Gavai was welcomed by Nepal’s senior-most Supreme Court Justice Sapana Pradhan Malla and Indian Ambassador to Nepal Naveen Srivastava, underscoring the importance both countries attach to judicial and institutional cooperation.
The visit reflects the long-standing judicial and legal ties between Nepal and India, two neighbours whose legal systems are deeply rooted in common law traditions. Justice Gavai’s presence is expected to open avenues for collaboration in judicial training, technological adaptation in courts, and reforms aimed at improving access to justice.

Both Supreme Courts have in the past exchanged delegations, organized joint seminars, and shared experiences in areas such as case management, use of digital tools in judicial processes, and promotion of judicial independence. This visit is seen as part of ongoing efforts to institutionalize such cooperation.
During his stay in Nepal, Justice Gavai is expected to meet with senior justices, legal professionals, and government officials.
