Kathmandu: As the Gen-Z movement intensifies, social media has been flooded with rumours that Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli is preparing to flee to Dubai under the pretext of seeking medical treatment.
Posts circulating online claim that Oli is planning to leave the country aboard a Himalayan Airlines flight, allegedly using treatment as an excuse.
The speculation gained traction after photos went viral showing a Himalayan Airlines Airbus A320-214 with the callsign 9N-LWU landing at Tribhuvan International Airport, with claims that Oli was using the same aircraft to escape to Dubai.
Social media users further alleged that the aircraft, described as one of Oli’s “regularly used” planes—including during his recent visit to China—had just returned from Dubai and landed in Kathmandu, fueling the rumour.
Officials, however, have dismissed the claims. Tribhuvan International Airport spokesperson Rinzi Sherpa confirmed that there had been no VIP flights and urged the public not to fall for misinformation.
Himalayan Airlines Vice President Vijay Shrestha also rejected the speculation as baseless, stressing that such rumours have surfaced only because of the escalating Gen-Z protests. He urged the public not to be misled.
