Kathmandu: Protesters have attacked the President of the Nepali Congress, Sher Bahadur Deuba, and the Minister of Foreign Affairs, Arzu Rana Deuba.
The couple was injured in the assault by the demonstrators.
Blood could be seen flowing from Deuba’s forehead. The protesters also set fire to the Deubas’ residence in Budhanilkantha.
The Nepali Army had arrived to rescue the couple, who were trapped inside the residence. However, the helicopter could not land due to the dense presence of protesters.
As the helicopter circled overhead, the agitators—believing the Deubas were still inside—set fire to the property and vandalized it. Eyewitnesses report that the couple, who were indeed still inside, were physically assaulted.
The protesters themselves eventually rescued the injured Deuba couple from the scene.
