Kathmandu: Inmates at Dilli Bazaar prison in Kathmandu set fire inside the jail on Wednesday, demanding their release amid nationwide unrest.
Despite resistance from the Nepal Army, the prisoners managed to break open the gate and attempted to escape.
One inmate who reached the street was quoted as saying: “If Rabi Lamichhane can be released on paper, why are we stopped at gunpoint by the Army?”
According to officials, the Nepal Army has blocked the prisoners outside the main gate, preventing any escape. Security forces have maintained that no inmates have been allowed to flee.
