Kathmandu Mayor Balen Shah backs former Chief Justice Sushila Karki as interim Prime Minister

Kathmandu: Kathmandu Metropolitan City Mayor Balendra Shah (Balen) has declared his full support for former Chief Justice Sushila Karki to lead Nepal’s proposed interim government.

On Wednesday night, Shah took to social media, emphasizing that the country is facing an unprecedented situation in its history. He stated that he fully supports the Gen Z movement’s proposal for Karki to lead an interim or electoral government.

In his message, Shah wrote:

“Dear Gen Z and fellow Nepalis,

The country is now in a completely unique situation never seen before in history. You are taking steps toward a brighter future. At this moment, I urge you not to panic and to remain patient. Nepal is moving toward an interim government that will hold new elections. The sole responsibility of this interim government will be to conduct elections and return the country to a new popular mandate.

For the leadership of this interim/electoral government, I fully support the proposal from Gen Z to appoint former Chief Justice Sushila Karki. I deeply respect your wisdom, prudence, and unity. This clearly shows the maturity you have demonstrated.

To those friends eager to immediately take leadership positions, I want to say this: your passion, your ideas, and your integrity are what the country needs permanently, not temporarily. Elections will take place for that. Please do not rush.”

Addressing the Head of State, Shah added:

“Honourable President,

To safeguard the historic revolution brought forth by Gen Z, please move swiftly to form the interim government and dissolve the parliament without delay.”
