Kathmandu: Amid the ongoing political crisis in Nepal, the Gen Z faction has decided to propose former Executive Chief of Nepal Electricity Authority, Kulman Ghising, as the leader of the interim cabinet.
A statement released on Wednesday asserts that their movement, aimed at ending corruption, controlling malpractices, and establishing good governance, has reached unprecedented success and that the formation of a Gen Z-supported interim cabinet will bring about concrete outcomes.
Initial discussions had considered Kathmandu Metropolitan Mayor Balendra Sah (Balen) as a prime candidate, but his lack of interest led to exploring other options. The name of Dharan Mayor Harka Sampang was also discussed but found unlikely to lead the government.
Though former Chief Justice Sushila Karki received support in a recent virtual discussion, the group clarified her ineligibility due to constitutional disqualifications for judges and age limits.
After these deliberations, a positive consensus emerged around Kulman Ghising’s name, with the decision made to send him to lead the interim cabinet.
However, a major faction within Gen Z remains committed to recommending Sushila Karki, who has support from Balen and has already reached the military headquarters.
