RSP leader Sumana Shrestha resigns from party, cites growing discontent

Kathmandu: Sumana Shrestha, a leader of the Rastriya Swatantra Party (RSP), has announced her resignation from the party on Sunday after a prolonged period of internal dissatisfaction.

She informed fellow central members about her decision through a message in the party’s group chat.

In her message, Shrestha wrote: “I was dissatisfied because mistakes were never acknowledged, mistakes were piled upon mistakes, and the burden was made to fall on everyone. The trend of putting critics through media trials has increased. Since the party started placing itself above the country, and leaders above the party, I have continuously raised objections. But instead of addressing them, I was subjected to media trials. This situation is unacceptable. Even if open attacks are made now, I have made it easier for them. I quit. I have left the party.”

Her resignation comes amid earlier speculation that she was in line to become a minister. However, on Saturday, she released a video statement clarifying that she was not vying for any ministerial position.

A few months ago, Shrestha had already stepped down from her role as the party’s Deputy General Secretary.
