NEPSE employees continue protest against management decision

Kathmandu: Employees of the Nepal Stock Exchange (NEPSE) have announced that their protest movement will continue.

On Thursday, NEPSE staff wore black armbands as a sign of protest and posted pamphlets on office walls declaring that the agitation is ongoing. The posters, issued under the name of the NEPSE Employees’ Union, read: “Our protest continues — Chairman Hemant Basyal, CEO Chudamani Chapagain.”

Employees have been protesting for the past few days, alleging that the NEPSE Board of Directors made a decision contrary to the order of the Labor Court.

Just on Tuesday night, protesting employees locked NEPSE Chairman Hemant Basyal, CEO Chudamani Chapagain, and other senior officials inside the office. They were rescued around midnight by Nepal Police and escorted to their homes at around 1 a.m.

The employees’ union had earlier filed a petition at the Labor Court demanding that workers receive bonuses from the company’s profits. The court had ruled in favor of the employees, ordering that bonuses be distributed.

However, the NEPSE Board decided not to provide the bonuses, allegedly defying the court’s order. The employees say this compelled them to launch the protest.
