Kathmandu: Nepal Rastra Bank has increased the daily limit for gold imports to 25 kilograms.
Previously, the central bank had allowed imports of up to 20 kilograms of gold per day, but this limit has now been raised to 25 kilograms.
On Friday, by amending the Unified Circular 2024, the Rastra Bank also introduced a new provision allowing Nepali and foreign citizens, as well as firms, companies, institutions, and branch offices registered in Nepal, to receive up to Rs 2.5 million per day (either at once or in installments) through licensed remittance companies.
The funds may come from abroad—whether from individuals or foreign firms—and can be deposited directly into the beneficiary’s account for purposes such as sales, commissions, fees, or remuneration, provided the amount is non-refundable.
When collecting and disbursing such remittance funds, licensed remittance companies are required to verify and maintain customer identification documents in accordance with prevailing regulations.
Previously, the daily limit for such remittance transactions was Rs 2 million. Similarly, the central bank has mandated that remittance details must now be submitted monthly—within seven days after the end of each month—to the concerned department, supervision department, and the Economic Research Department. This replaces the earlier rule that required submission of such details on a monthly basis without a specific deadline.
