Washington: US President Donald Trump announced plans to hold a summit with Russian President Vladimir Putin in Budapest, aimed at ending the war in Ukraine.
The announcement follows a two-hour phone call between the two leaders, which Trump described as productive.
The summit will follow preparatory talks next week involving US Secretary of State Marco Rubio. Trump is also set to brief Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy at the White House tomorrow.
The Kremlin confirmed plans for the summit but did not specify a date. Russian officials said the conversation focused on resolving the Ukraine conflict, warning against US missile deliveries to Kyiv and accusing Ukraine of targeting civilian infrastructure.
Trump said the call marked significant progress and expressed hope for a diplomatic breakthrough.
