Kathmandu: The government has approved the construction of three power transmission lines so far in the current fiscal year.
Under the Ministry of Energy, Water Resources, and Irrigation, the Department of Electricity Development has granted permission to build the Nalgad–Maintada transmission line, considered vital for connecting the electricity from the Bheri Corridor to the national grid. The line will be 75 kilometres long.
According to the department, the 400 kV transmission line will have the capacity to transmit up to 2,400 megawatts of electricity. The project will be constructed by the National Transmission Grid Company.
Similarly, approval has been granted for the construction of the 33 kV Khorunga Khola transmission line, which will be 4.38 kilometres long and capable of carrying 4.8 megawatts of electricity. This line is being built to connect electricity generated from a hydropower project to the national system.
In addition, Super Sardi Khola Hydropower is constructing a 33 kV, 3.68-kilometre-long transmission line to connect its generated electricity to the grid. The line will transmit 2.9 megawatts of power.
So far, the Department of Electricity Development has issued construction permits for a total of 274 small and large transmission lines.
Likewise, in the current fiscal year to date, the department has granted survey licenses for eight transmission line projects, including the 132 kV Mid-Chamelia transmission line.
Other approved projects include the Beldiya Solar Power Project, Phalekhu Khola 132 kV Transmission Line Project, Janaki Solar Power Transmission Line, Dudh Koshi Fifth 220 kV Transmission Line Project, and the Samundratar–Lapsephedi 232 kV Transmission Line.
Similarly, the Dadakheti–Burtibang 132 kV Transmission Line and the Sani Bheri 132 kV Transmission Line Project have also been granted survey permits.
In total, the department has approved 144 transmission line survey licenses to date.
Moreover, the department has received 21 new applications for survey permits for transmission lines, 11 of which were filed during the current fiscal year alone.
