Nepal Stock Exchange plunges 20.56 points amid broad declines, turnover rises to Rs 3.84 billion


Kathmandu: Nepal Stock Exchange (Nepse) index declined by 20.56 points on Wednesday, closing at 2,444.59, reflecting a downturn despite increased trading volume.

Although the benchmark index fell, the total turnover rose, with Rs 3.84 billion in shares traded across 254 listed companies.

Infrastructure and Development Company led the trading with Rs 403.5 million in transactions, followed by Radhi Hydropower Company at Rs 221.4 million and Sahas Urja Company at Rs 140.1 million.

All sub-indices except the manufacturing sector ended lower. The manufacturing and processing sub-index rose by 0.23 percent, while the trading sub-index saw the steepest drop at 2.35 percent. Other sub-indices fell by 1.33 percent, and the life insurance and investment sub-indices declined by 0.99 percent.

Out of the 254 listed companies traded, share prices of 198 declined, 49 advanced, and 7 remained unchanged. Newly listed companies like Bhugol Energy and Sagar Distillery closed at a 10 percent positive circuit breaker. Bungam Hydro Power and Bandipur Cable Car shares also surged 9.98 percent to hit positive circuit levels.

On the downside, Darmakhol Hydropower Energy’s share price dropped 8.72 percent, Malibu Energy fell 8.21 percent, and Mero Microfinance declined 4.57 percent.
