Kathmandu: Nepal’s stock market posted a modest decline on Monday, the second trading day of the week, with the NEPSE index slipping 3.07 points to close at 2,769.09, following a strong rally of 57.55 points in the previous session.
Despite the slight drop in the benchmark index, trading activity remained robust, with total turnover exceeding Rs 16.35 billion, up from more than Rs 13.5 billion recorded a day earlier.
Market breadth, however, leaned negative as share prices of 88 companies moved up while 165 declined, and seven remained unchanged.
Volatility was visible at the stock level, with five companies posting gains of more than nine percent, while two others also recorded sharp increases of over nine percent, reflecting continued speculative and sector-specific momentum even as the broader index edged lower.
