Kathmandu: On the occasion of Safe Internet Day 2026, Ncell Foundation and Nasa Securities announced the nationwide launch of the “Safer Internet Together (SIT)” programme on Tuesday.
The social initiative aims to educate students on cyber safety, data privacy, and various aspects of digital security, with an expected reach of over 50,000 students, teachers, and community members.
Currently running as a pilot project, the program targets students from grades 3 to 12 in government, community, and private schools across Bagmati, Gandaki, and Madhesh provinces. The sessions focus on raising awareness about cybersecurity, digital safety, and responsible use of technology.
As part of the programme, a handbook on internet safety has also been prepared and will be distributed to participating students after each session. Following successful implementation in the three pilot provinces, organizers plan to expand the programme to other provinces in the next fiscal year.
The theme for this year’s Safe Internet Day is “Smart Tech, Safe Choices: Exploring the Safe and Responsible Use of AI.” The official launch was held at Shri Rashtriya Madhyamik School in Pokhara. Ncell CEO Michael Foley addressed students, sharing his insights on digital safety and the responsible use of artificial intelligence in today’s digital era.
“SIT is aligned with Ncell Foundation’s commitment to promoting a safe and inclusive digital ecosystem in Nepal. As a parent, personal data protection is very important to me. With technology becoming an integral part of our lives, understanding potential risks and preparing for them has never been more essential,” Foley said. He added that the program aims to equip students and youth with the skills and confidence to navigate the digital world safely and responsibly, ensuring they can make the most of digital opportunities.
Madan Paudel, Managing Director of Nasa Securities, emphasized the shared responsibility of ensuring online safety for youth, noting that digital literacy and cybersecurity are as crucial as financial literacy in today’s world. He highlighted that the SIT campaign provides students with practical knowledge to protect their digital footprint and engage responsibly in the digital ecosystem, reflecting a long-term commitment to digital empowerment and community development across Nepal.
So far, SIT sessions have been conducted in nine schools, including Shri Rashtriya Madhyamik School, Shri Amarsingh Secondary School, Little Step Secondary School, Bhaskar Memorial School, St. Mary’s School, and Rainbow Academic Homes Secondary School in Kaski; St. Mary’s School and Bani Vilas High School in Lalitpur; and Adarsha High School in Bhaktapur. Asterisk Technology has partnered as the implementation collaborator. These sessions have already benefited over 7,000 students.
