Nepal Life unveils women-centric insurance plan with maternity and growing death benefits

Kathmandu: Marking International Women’s Day, Nepal Life Insurance has launched a first-of-its-kind women-focused life insurance product in Nepal, branded as the “Nepal Life Nari Suraksha Life Insurance Plan.” Promoted under the slogan “One Plan, Multiple Benefits – Easy Access for All Women,” the policy is designed to address women’s life protection, health needs, savings, and long-term financial security in a single package.

A key feature of the plan is a cash benefit paid on each policy anniversary based on the insured sum. In addition, the death benefit increases by 25 percent every five years, providing a growing level of financial protection over time. The company says the product is structured to ensure both immediate support and long-term financial stability for women policyholders.

For the first time in Nepal’s life insurance sector, the plan includes supplementary coverage for maternity care and pregnancy-related complications. Under the pregnancy complications rider, if any one of 11 specified serious pregnancy-related medical conditions is diagnosed during the coverage period, the insured will receive a lump-sum payout of Rs 100,000.

Similarly, under the maternity care rider, if the insured woman becomes pregnant during the policy term, she will be entitled to a one-time lump-sum payment of Rs 10,000 to help cover pregnancy-related healthcare expenses. The company states that these features have been introduced in recognition of motherhood as one of the most significant and sensitive phases in a woman’s life, where financial and health-related risks can increase.

The policy is structured as a participating endowment life insurance plan with advance payment features. The minimum sum assured is Rs 250,000, while the maximum coverage amount will be determined based on the policyholder’s income source. Entry age ranges from 18 to 65 years.

In addition to the core benefits, policyholders can opt for supplementary riders such as accidental death benefit (ADB), permanent total disability (PTD) coverage, and premium waiver benefit (PWB). According to Nepal Life Insurance, the plan aims to promote financial independence, dignity, and long-term economic security for women across the country.
