Kathmandu: Voter turnout in parliamentary election reached around 45 percent nationwide by about 4:00 p.m. on Thursday, according to updated data from the Election Commission Nepal.
Out of a total of 18,903,689 registered voters across the country, approximately 8,860,677 had cast their ballots by that time in the election for the House of Representatives of Nepal.
The data shows particularly strong participation in the Kathmandu Valley, where about 54 percent of voters in the valley’s 15 constituencies had already voted by around 3:45 p.m.
Among Nepal’s provinces, the highest turnout was recorded in Gandaki Province and Karnali Province, each reporting about 48 percent voter participation. In contrast, Madhesh Province recorded the lowest turnout, with only about 37 percent of voters casting ballots across its 32 constituencies.
Elsewhere, voter turnout reached around 47 percent in both Bagmati Province and Lumbini Province, while Koshi Province reported 46 percent participation. Sudurpashchim Province had the second-lowest turnout after Madhesh, with about 39 percent of voters participating by late afternoon.
Voting has been taking place since early morning at 10,967 polling stations across all 165 constituencies nationwide. With polling scheduled to continue until 5:00 pm, officials expect the final turnout figure to rise further as many voters were still waiting in line to cast their ballots.
