Kathmandu: Balendra Shah (Balen), a leader of the Rastriya Swatantra Party (RSP) who secured a victory from Jhapa Constituency No. 5, has officially released his election expenditure details.
According to the report submitted to the Election Commission on Monday, Shah disclosed that he spent a total of Rs 1,417,289 during the House of Representatives election.
The breakdown of the expenses highlights that a total of Rs 28,970 was spent on providing snacks for 58 individuals during the campaign period.
Further details show that vehicle operations over 15 days cost Rs 293,800, while airfare for five trips to and from Jhapa amounted to Rs 35,000. Additionally, Shah spent Rs 580,000 on publicity programmes conducted across 29 wards of the constituency over a 15-day duration.
The expenditure report also includes Rs 49,850 for printing sample ballots, Rs 120,000 for office operations and water at the Jhapa-5 regional election office, and Rs 22,820 for stationery supplies.
In his submission to the Election Commission, Shah noted that Rs 165,041 was spent on promotional materials like flags and badges, while banners and stickers cost Rs 119,808. Including the nomination filing fee of Rs 10,000, his total election spending reached the final figure of Rs 1,417,289.
In a significant political development, Balen Shah unseated CPN-UML Chairman KP Sharma Oli in Jhapa-5. Shah was declared the winner after securing 68,348 votes.
