Kathmandu: The upcoming 60th Annual General Meeting and elections of the Federation of Nepalese Chambers of Commerce and Industry are gaining momentum, with senior vice president Anjan Shrestha set to formally announce his leadership panel. His team is expected to be unveiled at a special event on Monday at Hotel Radisson in Lazimpat.
Following the general assembly, Shrestha is in line to automatically assume the presidency, as per FNCCI’s statute. His panel features a mix of experienced and well-established business figures. From the commodity sector, Shiva Prasad Ghimire will contest for vice president, while Prabal Jung Pandey will represent the associate category. From the district and municipal side, Dil Sundar Shrestha and Krishna Prasad Sharma are set to run for vice president positions.
However, Shrestha has faced criticism for forming a faction despite being guaranteed the presidency under the statute. Some within the organization argue that building a panel from a position of assured leadership raises concerns about internal divisions.
The FNCCI’s 60th annual general assembly is scheduled for Chaitra 29 and 30. Meanwhile, current vice president Hemraj Dhakal has already announced his candidacy for senior vice president in the upcoming election, along with his own panel.
From Dhakal’s side, Jyotsna Shrestha is contesting for associate vice president, a position she currently holds. Other candidates in his panel include Umesh Dalmia and Kalpana Gaire for district and municipal vice president, Naresh Lal Shrestha for commodity vice president, and Kamala Shrestha as a proposed female vice president.
With both camps preparing strong lineups, the FNCCI election is shaping up to be a closely watched contest within Nepal’s business community.
