Labour Minister sacked over alleged abuse of office

Kathmandu: Prime Minister Balendra Shah has dismissed Labour Minister Dipak Kumar Sah following allegations that he used his position to secure an appointment for his wife to the Health Insurance Board.

The move came after a recommendation from Rabi Lamichhane, chair of the Rastriya Swatantra Party, which had nominated Sah to the government. Lamichhane formally wrote to the prime minister, urging his removal on grounds of misconduct and misuse of authority.

According to the party’s internal disciplinary review, Sah played an active role in appointing his wife to a long-inactive position within the Health Insurance Board. The party concluded that this action undermined its principles, credibility, and commitment to ethical governance.

In its letter, the party cited provisions from its statute that allow it to recall representatives found guilty of abusing their office. Based on these provisions, it requested that Sah be relieved of his ministerial responsibilities.

The party has also recommended that Health Minister Nisha Mehta be formally warned for failing to exercise due responsibility in the matter. The decision, accompanied by documentation from the party’s disciplinary commission, has been presented as part of its broader commitment to accountability and good governance.
