Ujyalo Nepal Chair Ghising calls for fuel subsidy in Karnali

Karnali: Chairperson of Ujyalo Nepal Party, Kulman Ghising, has demanded that the government withdraw the recent decision to increase the prices of petroleum products.

In his address to a province-level party cadres’ meeting in Karnali on Monday, Ghising was of the view of providing a special subsidy in the fuel prices for Karnali folks.

“Life in Karnali is already expensive due to its geographical features and remoteness. That’s why fuels should be supplied here at subsidized prices to ease the public movement and to promote tourism,” the former Minister stressed.

Stating that Nepal’s closest neighbour, India, has not yet increased the prices of petroleum products despite the price hike in the international market, he urged the government to take measures to reduce the economic burden of rising prices on citizens.

He also pledged his support to the current government for enabling an atmosphere in which it can function smoothly.

Ghising also took time to say that while he was in the Nepal Electricity Authority (NEA) leadership and in the government, investment of around Rs 35 billion was secured for electrification and transmission lines in the districts of the Karnali Province.

Work on a 132 KV transmission line is presently underway up to Jumla, he added.

Commenting on his party’s defeat in the recent House of Representatives (HoR) elections, Ghising said his party had a limited time to reach out to the voters after the party’s establishment. He was confident that his party would emerge as a major force in the next elections, with its organisation in the grassroots.
