Kathmandu: Reconstruction work has officially begun on one of the most severely damaged sections of the BP Highway, which was devastated by flooding from the Roshi River.
The 3.2-kilometre stretch from Madhya Pipley to Barkhekhola is being rebuilt with financial assistance from the Japan International Cooperation Agency.
The foundation stone for the reconstruction project was jointly laid by Japanese Ambassador to Nepal Maeda Toru and Infrastructure Development Ministry Secretary Gopal Prasad Sigdel.
The reconstruction contract has been awarded to Shimizu Corporation. The project will be carried out with a Japanese grant assistance package worth Rs. 2.6 billion and is expected to incorporate advanced construction technology.
The section has suffered extensive erosion and structural damage due to the Roshi River and is regarded as one of the most technically challenging parts of the BP Highway.
