Government to restructure Nepal Airlines into company model to enhance efficiency

Kathmandu: The Government of Nepal has officially announced that the national flag carrier, Nepal Airlines Corporation (NAC), will be transitioned into a company-led operational model.

Finance Minister Dr Swarnim Waglé unveiled this strategic move on Friday while presenting the federal budget for the fiscal year 2083/84. According to the announcement, the government will develop a dedicated framework to oversee this conversion, aiming to professionalize the management of the struggling airline and improve its commercial viability.

Although previous administrations have repeatedly made similar pledges regarding privatization or corporatization, those efforts never moved past the planning stages; however, the current government now intends to finalize a definitive model to ensure the corporation’s long-term sustainability and operational growth.
