Kathmandu: The Government of Nepal has earmarked a substantial sum of 32.46 billion rupees for the procurement of chemical fertilizers in the upcoming fiscal year.
This significant allocation is intended to ensure that farmers across the nation have access to a reliable supply of essential agricultural inputs, addressing a recurring challenge in the country’s farming sector. Finance Minister Dr Swarnim Waglé revealed this funding provision while presenting the national budget before the Federal Parliament on Friday.
In addition to the immediate procurement funds, Minister Waglé announced a strategic initiative to establish a “Green Urea” fertilizer factory within the country. This move signals a long-term commitment to enhancing domestic production capabilities and reducing Nepal’s heavy dependence on imported fertilizers. By investing in local manufacturing through eco-friendly technologies, the government aims to provide a more sustainable and secure solution for the nation’s agricultural needs.
