Kathmandu: The Government of Nepal has earmarked 1.53 billion rupees for the comprehensive upgrading of Tribhuvan International Airport (TIA) to enhance its capacity and service standards.
During the presentation of the national budget, Finance Minister Dr Swarnim Waglé also addressed the future of the long-proposed Nijgadh International Airport, committing to finalize a definitive project modality within the next six months to move the strategic venture forward.
In a significant policy shift aimed at improving operational efficiency, the government has decided to manage both Gautam Buddha International Airport and Pokhara International Airport under a Public-Private Partnership (PPP) model.
This approach is intended to bring in specialized expertise and private investment to maximize the potential of these international gateways. Additionally, the government plans to boost domestic travel by equipping Bharatpur Airport for night flight operations, allowing for expanded schedules and improved connectivity for regional passengers.
