Kathmandu: The high-level committee tasked with investigating Sudhan Gurung, the former Home Minister and prominent lawmaker from the Rastriya Swatantra Party (RSP), has officially submitted its comprehensive findings to Prime Minister Balen Shah. This move marks the conclusion of a rigorous inquiry into the controversies that had previously surrounded the MP.
The 45-page report was handed over to the Prime Minister earlier today, concluding weeks of detailed investigation. According to sources close to the matter, the report effectively grants Gurung a “clean chit,” finding no substantial evidence to uphold the accusations against him. Following this exoneration, there is growing political speculation that Prime Minister Shah is preparing to reappoint Gurung to his former position as the Minister of Home Affairs.
The investigative panel was established following a Cabinet decision on May 10, led by Achyut Prasad Bhandari, a former judge of the High Court. The committee also included Auditor General Shobhakant Paudel and Joint Attorney General Achyutmani Neupane as key members. During the probe, the committee meticulously scrutinized Gurung’s financial records, personal asset declarations, and the specific nature of the complaints lodged against him before finalizing their recommendation.
