Ministry discloses candidates vying for key leadership roles at Electricity Regulatory Commission


Kathmandu: The Ministry of Energy, Water Resources, and Irrigation has formally released the list of candidates who have applied for the vacant positions of Chairperson and Members at the Electricity Regulatory Commission (ERC). This disclosure, made through an official statement, follows a recruitment process aimed at filling critical administrative and technical roles within the power sector’s primary regulatory body.

The call for applications was initially issued in accordance with a decision made on May 19, 2026, by the Electricity Regulatory Commission Appointment and Recommendation Committee. According to the ministry, the process drew a total of 32 applicants by the final submission deadline. Among the contenders, 10 individuals are competing for the prestigious post of Chairperson, while 22 candidates have submitted their credentials for the vacant membership positions.

The candidates vying for the role of Chairperson include a group of seasoned experts and professionals, namely Er. Rudra Prasad Gautam, Keshav Dhwoj Adhikari, Dr Ram Prasad Dhital, Rameshwar Prasad Kalwar, Madhu Prasad Bhetuwal, Moti Bahadur Kunwar, Dr Madhusudan Adhikari, Dr Bhola Nath Sharma Adhikari, Narayan Prasad Sapkota, and Dr Shanti Kala Subedi.

These applicants represent a high level of academic and technical expertise essential for steering the commission’s regulatory mandates.

Similarly, the ministry received a broad range of interest for the member positions, with 22 individuals joining the race. The list of applicants includes Dr Shekhar Aryal, Rajiv Kumar Singh, Nirajwal Basnet, Rudra Prasad Sitaula, Jayraj Bhandari, Brajmohan Jha, Suresh Bahadur Bhattarai, Prakash Jawali, Lokraj Pathak, Ram Prasad Gautam, Jhamak Prasad Sharma, and Bishal Silwal. Additionally, Balram Silwal, Rajiv Dahal, Bigyan Shrestha, Diwakar Mallick, Arjun Kumar Gautam, Narendra Singh Bhandari, Narayan Prasad Sapkota, Kalpmohan Soti, Shanti Kala Subedi, and Kusheshwar Prasad Sahu have also put forth their names for consideration. This pool of candidates will now undergo further evaluation by the recommendation committee to determine the most qualified individuals for the appointments.
