Standard Chartered Bank Nepal marks World Environment Day with mass plantation drive in Kirtipur

Kathmandu: Standard Chartered Bank Nepal commemorated World Environment Day 2026 by organizing a significant tree plantation program at the Adinath Community Forest in Kirtipur. The event saw the active participation of approximately 350 bank employees alongside members of the local community. During the drive, 500 saplings consisting of various fruit-bearing, flowering, and shade-providing species were planted to enhance the local ecosystem.

The bank stated that this initiative is part of its broader commitment to promoting greenery, supporting biodiversity, and contributing to long-term environmental sustainability.

The plantation drive was officially inaugurated by Gorakh Rana, Chief Executive Officer of Standard Chartered Bank Nepal, and Kedar Basnet, Chairman of the Adinath Community Forest User Group, who jointly planted the first sapling to symbolize the partnership between the financial institution and local conservationists.

Addressing the gathering, CEO Gorakh Rana praised the enthusiastic involvement of the staff in environmental conservation efforts. He noted with pride that the bank’s employees have been instrumental in planting nearly 40,000 trees in the Lalitpur and Kirtipur areas over the years. Rana emphasized that each sapling planted represents not just an addition to the forest but a symbol of hope and a shared responsibility toward preserving the planet for future generations.

This annual plantation campaign has become a “signature event” for Standard Chartered Bank Nepal, reflecting its institutional dedication to corporate social responsibility and climate action. By engaging both its workforce and the local community, the bank continues to foster a culture of environmental stewardship and sustainable development.
