Kathmandu: In a landmark development for Nepal’s hospitality sector, Marriott International Inc. and CG Hospitality Global, the hospitality arm of the Chaudhary Group, have signed a definitive agreement to bring two world-renowned hotel brands to the capital.
The partnership, formalized on Sunday, will see the debut of “The Ritz-Carlton Kathmandu” and “The Westin Kathmandu,” introducing a new tier of luxury and premium service to the city’s urban landscape.
This collaboration is set to add approximately 300 keys to Marriott’s portfolio, marking the entry of its most prestigious global brands into the heart of Nepal.
Targeted for completion by 2031, these ambitious projects are being developed through a strategic consortium between Nepal’s leading business houses, including the Chaudhary Group, IEG Group, IJ Group, and Sharma & Company. The signing ceremony featured a high-profile assembly of industry leaders, including David Marriott, Chairman of the Board for Marriott International, and Binod Chaudhary, Chairman of the Chaudhary Group. They were joined by Rahul Chaudhary, Managing Director and CEO of CG Hospitality Global, along with top executives from Marriott’s Asia-Pacific and South Asia divisions, signalling a robust commitment to elevating Nepal as a premier destination for high-end international travellers.
Rajeev Menon, President of Marriott International for Asia Pacific (excluding China), emphasized that this expansion reflects a shared vision to bring world-class hospitality experiences to high-potential markets like Nepal. He noted that these landmark projects would not only showcase Marriott’s highest standards of excellence but also significantly contribute to local job creation and regional economic development. Echoing this sentiment, Rahul Chaudhary highlighted that this venture represents a new chapter in CG Hospitality’s journey to transform the South Asian tourism landscape. He expressed a commitment to creating iconic destinations that blend local culture with global luxury, ultimately pushing the Nepali tourism industry to unprecedented heights.
The Ritz-Carlton Kathmandu is set to redefine the pinnacle of luxury in the vibrant Thamel district, offering 150 meticulously designed guest rooms, including 30 expansive suites. Designed to cater to the most discerning travellers, the hotel will feature five distinct restaurants and bars, an outdoor swimming pool, a state-of-the-art fitness centre, and the signature Ritz-Carlton Spa.
For business and social gatherings, the property will provide over 1,100 square meters of sophisticated meeting and event space. Located just five kilometres from Tribhuvan International Airport, the hotel will offer convenient access to major cultural landmarks such as the Narayanhiti Palace Museum and Kathmandu Durbar Square.
Complementing this luxury offering, The Westin Kathmandu will focus on wellness and a balanced lifestyle, located roughly seven kilometres from the international airport. This property will house 150 premium rooms and suites, along with three diverse dining venues and the brand’s signature wellness programs, including the WestinWORKOUT Fitness Studio and Heavenly Spa by Westin. With over 700 square meters of meeting space utilizing smart technology and natural light, the hotel aims to provide a tranquil sanctuary for travellers, prioritizing health and rejuvenation.
This latest agreement solidifies an increasingly deep relationship between Marriott International and CG Hospitality, which has already seen remarkable success in India through the “Sincere by Marriott” initiative, currently managing 50 operational hotels across 43 cities. Their collaboration extends globally, with recent ventures such as the first Autograph Collection hotel in the Philippines and upcoming branded residences in Dubai.
As CG Hospitality continues to expand its diverse global portfolio, which includes partnerships with icons like Taj, Fairmont, and Hilton, it aims to manage 600 hotels by 2030, reinforcing its status as a major force in the international hospitality arena.
