RPP demands resignation of Finance Minister Wagle over allegations of budget document manipulation

Kathmandu: Rastriya Prajatantra Party (RPP) has demanded the immediate resignation of Finance Minister Dr Swarnim Wagle.

The party levelled serious allegations against the Minister, accusing him of unauthorized tampering with tax rates and altering pages of the Economic Bill after it had already been registered in Parliament.

RPP Chief Whip Khushbu Oli called for an impartial investigation into the incident. She stated that the Finance Minister should step down on moral grounds to ensure a fair and unhindered probe into the matter.

The controversy stems from a discrepancy in the size of the legislative document. While the original Economic Bill presented to Parliament on May 28 (Jestha 15) consisted of 464 pages, the version later uploaded to the Finance Ministry’s official website was reduced to 448 pages.

The RPP alleges that 16 pages were removed and tax provisions were altered in the digital version.

Under established parliamentary procedures, once a bill is registered in the House, any amendments or changes require mandatory approval from Parliament. The government is currently facing severe criticism for what is being described as an arbitrary and unilateral modification of tax laws, bypassing the authority of the legislature.
