Balen Shah cabinet backs DDC products as matter of national pride

Kathmandu: In a significant move to elevate domestic production to a status of national pride, the government has launched a dedicated initiative to promote products from the state-owned Dairy Development Corporation (DDC).

During a cabinet meeting held on Tuesday, ministers engaged in comprehensive deliberations focused on expanding the market reach and nationwide visibility of DDC’s offerings, signalling a strategic shift toward prioritizing indigenous industries and strengthening the local economy.

Minister for Agriculture, Forestry, and Environment Gita Chaudhary spearheaded the agenda, advocating for the protection of local dairy production and the welfare of Nepali farmers. She emphasized that enhancing the DDC’s commercial viability is essential for the sector’s long-term sustainability.

According to Minister Chaudhary, fostering inter-agency coordination is vital to transforming the corporation into a competitive, high-quality, and self-reliant institution. She maintained that concrete state-led interventions are necessary to ensure that milk collected from local farmers finds a guaranteed and well-managed market.

To further cement this commitment, Minister Chaudhary presented gift hampers featuring DDC-produced pure ghee, yoghurt, paneer, and cheese to Prime Minister Balendra Shah and other cabinet members during the session.

The Prime Minister extended his full support to the campaign, personally involving himself in the promotion to send a powerful message about the importance of consuming domestic goods.

This high-level endorsement follows the Prime Minister’s recent social media engagement on May 15, where he popularized DDC’s yak cheese with the catchphrase “Say Cheese, DDC Cheese.”

This collective government effort is expected to provide much-needed encouragement to local dairy farmers and revitalize the business prospects of the state-run corporation.
