Kathmandu: Itahari is poised to become home to the largest convention facility in Koshi Province with the development of the AB Hospitality–Wyndham Resort & Convention Centre. The project reached a major milestone this Wednesday as the necessary financial arrangements were successfully finalized through a collaborative funding agreement between Everest Bank Limited and Muktinath Bikas Bank Limited.
Led by Desh Bandhu Basnet, Chairman of AB Investment Holding, this ambitious infrastructure project is being hailed as a transformative addition to Eastern Nepal’s tourism and hospitality landscape. Strategically located near the Bhat-Bhateni area in Itahari, the centre will feature a massive capacity to accommodate 4,000 people. It is designed to serve as a premier venue for national and international conferences, large-scale exhibitions, corporate summits, and high-end destination weddings.
Chairman Basnet emphasized that the facility is expected to establish Eastern Nepal as a primary hub for both commercial and tourism activities, drawing organizers and visitors from across the country as well as from neighbouring India. Beyond its regional appeal, the project is anticipated to be a major economic driver, creating thousands of direct and indirect employment opportunities while providing a significant boost to local businesses, the service sector, and the agricultural market.
Prabhat Karki, the project’s manager and visionary, noted that a large-scale convention centre has been a long-standing requirement for the province. He believes the centre will play a crucial role in strengthening the identity of Eastern Nepal as a commercial gateway connecting Nepal with India, Bhutan, and Bangladesh. By providing world-class facilities, the project aims to bridge regional business interests and elevate the standard of hospitality services in the South Asian sub-region.
