PM Balen Shah arrives in Chitwan for RSP’s historic convention, stays at luxury resort under tight security

Kathmandu: Prime Minister and senior leader of the Rastriya Swatantra Party (RSP), Balen Shah, arrived in Chitwan on Sunday to attend the party’s first-ever historic national convention.

Accompanied by his wife and daughter, the Prime Minister reached the district to participate in both the inaugural ceremony and the subsequent closed-door sessions of the major political event.

During his stay in Chitwan, the Prime Minister is residing at the newly built five-star Latauli Sanctuary Resort located in Shaktikhor, Kalika Municipality-9. Following his arrival for the inauguration, Shah moved into the resort with his family. To ensure privacy and security, the entire resort has been exclusively booked for the Prime Minister’s entourage from June 20 to June 25.

The Latauli Sanctuary Resort, which opened its doors only recently in April, features a total of 16 rooms. According to internal sources, 13 of these rooms are being utilized for the guests, while the remaining three are being kept for miscellaneous operational needs. Based on the resort’s official website, a suite room costs approximately US$ 225 (nearly Rs 33,000) per night, while the most affordable rooms are priced at Rs 19,500 per day.

In addition to the Latauli Sanctuary, another 14 rooms have been secured at the nearby Viewrankot Resort, which is managed by the same company, to accommodate the rest of the Prime Minister’s team. Situated roughly 20 kilometres northeast of the convention venue, this resort area is renowned for its serene environment and picturesque surroundings, making it a highly attractive location for high-profile stays.

Security measures have been significantly ramped up, with personnel from the Nepal Army and Nepal Police deployed at the resort since Saturday. Given the sensitive nature of the high-profile visit, all surveillance cameras within the resort have been turned off to maintain absolute privacy and confidentiality for the Prime Minister during his stay.

To further safeguard the privacy of the leaders, most of the resort’s 45-member staff have been sent on a four-day leave, leaving only a skeletal crew in the kitchen and housekeeping departments. The remaining employees have been strictly prohibited from taking any photographs or videos and are even barred from carrying mobile phones while on duty to prevent any unauthorized leaks.

Joining Prime Minister Balen Shah at the resort are several top leaders from his faction, including Home Minister Sudan Gurung, RSP General Secretary Bhupdev Shah, and leader Sunil Lamsal. The group is expected to stay at the facility throughout the duration of the party’s landmark convention.
